Safe Space

Over the past 2 years, there have been so many phrases and terms that were new to me- “speaking your truth”, “speaking truth to power”, “I am enough”, “walking or standing in your greatness”, “safe space” & of course some others. The first 2 phrases seem pretty self explanatory, but those last 3…I had to some learning to do. “I am ENOUGH.” I am certain I can surely trace my recollection back to my childhood where at some point I began to feel I had to do extra things, or pretend to be a certain way to garner someone’s attention, or validate who I was in someones life or to simply have them like me. I carried this thought process into my adult years. It’s odd because it has only been recent that I have really just decided to not give a damn how people perceive me. I am ready to retire from being the apologetic people pleaser. Then there’s, “Walking or standing in your greatness.” This phrase to me carries with it an air of humble confidence. I mean this is saying, “You are GREAT! Walk or simply BE in YOUR GREATNESS!!! Did you know YOU ARE GREAT?! We are all uniquely purposed to be here. You possess a gift or purpose; maybe you are aware of your gift or you haven’t surrounded yourself with others or in an atmosphere that allows your purpose to be revealed. No matter the circumstances, YOU ARE A GREAT, a uniquely made human being. Then there’s “safe space.” It wasn’t until my journey during my 200hr yoga teacher training that I understood the importance of this meaning & that our BLACK & BROWN communities, even with the growth of spaces we have, we are still so limited in the amount of safe spaces for us. During this heightened time in our country, amid COVID and POC fighting to preserve black and brown lives, it is imperative that BIPOC seek out safe spaces for themselves. It is my own desire to create a safe space for me within my blog to express and explore the constant evolution of myself and encourage you and others to actively seek a safe space for yourselves, so you can begin to SPEAK YOUR TRUTH, SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER, KNOW YOU ARE ENOUGH AND WALK/STAND IN YOUR GREATNESS!
