WEEK OF BLACK EXCELLENCE 2021

What an emotional, overwhelming week it has been! We began this week, January 18, 2021 celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who is a perfectly positioned bookend for this week, followed by the inauguration of Joe Biden along with our nation’s FIRST BLACK WOMAN OF SOUTH ASIAN DESCENT as our VICE PRESIDENT, Kamala Harris! The inauguration was completed with the nation’s FIRST EVER, beautiful Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, a 22 yr old Harvard Graduate. On the 22nd, the nation's FIRST BLACK DEFENSE SECERTARY OF THE ARMY, Lloyd Austin, was confirmed by Congress. Last but most definitely not least, we say good bye to a baseball hero & LEGEND, from my home town of Mobile, Alabama, Hank Aaron, who passed away at the age of 86, in Atlanta, Georgia. He broke Babe Ruth’s all time home run record during a tumultuous time in our nation’s history, the Jim Crow Era. He played with the Atlanta Braves, who were originally known as the Milwaukee Braves, for over 20 years. May his soul Rest In Peace, his family, friends and fans be comforted during this sad time, and may his memory be a blessing.

Let’s just take a moment to collectively reverence the significance of this time as I leave you with the awesome Poem Ms Amanda Gorman recited at the ground breaking, history making Inauguration.
